The Consortium

It is the responsibility of the inspection body to ascertain the conformity of the aforementioned subjects with the requirements governed by both the provisions of the Specification and the requirements deriving from the Control Plan and in accordance with the methods and frequency set out in the schedule of conformity checks.

In the case of a Protection Consortium recognised by the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies, the Consortium may submit an application to the inspection body for the PGI to be subject to conformity checks, and the member producers will send the inspection body their personal adherence to the control system through the Consortium. Subsequently, it is the responsibility of the Control Body to carry out the conformity controls according to the frequency and methods set out in the Control Plan. The Consortium for the Protection of the Carota Novella di Ispica PGI has already submitted a request for recognition to the Ministry and is awaiting communication from the latter.

The inspection body informs the ICQRF of the list of operators registered in the “Carota Novella di Ispica” PGI control system. At this point, each farm must notify the inspection body of the indicative date of the start of harvesting 10 days before it takes place. Within 30 days of the end of harvesting, each farm must forward to the inspection body: - the quantities of Carota Novella di Ispica produced potentially destined for the PGI. - the quantities of Carota Novella di Ispica sold/wrapped intended for the PGI circuit, with an indication of the intermediary/packager.

Notification is also required if no sales of carrots for the PGI circuit have taken place during the year. By the month of December each farm confirms, by means of a simple written communication, the summary of the quantities produced and sold/confirmed above.
