Change the disciplinary for the Ispica PGI Novella Carrot

News for the Carrot Novella di Ispica Igp, which received the OK from the Mipaaf for some changes - few in reality but of substantial importance - to its own specification. "To begin with, some varieties have been removed from the specification that were no longer adequate for our production needs," said Massimo Pavan, president of the Consortium for the Protection of New Carrot of Ispica Igp.

"It was a question of making our efforts in the production phase more efficient - explained Pavan - with more performing varieties capable of expanding the volumes on a qualitative-quantitative level that we have achieved with the introduction of the varieties: Namibia, Soprano, Novara, Allyance in addition in Exelso, Dordogne, Nancò, Romance. This is now the new varietal panorama from which our consortium members can draw to face the campaign of our Carrota Novella di Ispica Igp with greater serenity ”.

Previously, the branded Ispica carrot could only be sold in its intact form, therefore as it appears after harvesting and washing. Here too, a change in the specification will make it possible from the next campaign to expand the sales opportunities for the IV range.

“Carrot Novella di Ispica Igp can be placed on the market ready for consumption (IV range) - states the new specification - after having been subjected to the operations referred to in Ministerial Decree no. 3746 of 20 June 2014 - Implementation of art. 4 of law no.77 of 13 May 2011, (which includes: the selection, sorting, cleansing or cutting, washing, drying, and packaging in sealed bags or trays, with the possible use of a protective atmosphere) which by their nature they do not alter its characteristics ".

"If with the changes to the varietal choices we intended to strengthen production - explained President Pavan - with the entry into the world of IV range, the intent is to push sales, with a new slice of the market that was previously closed to us. . We are satisfied with the conclusion of the process, which has been overdue for some time, especially in light of a campaign that closed in a rather unsatisfactory manner.
