The Carota Novella di Ispica IGP Protection Consortium, founded in 2010, brings together producers who represent more than 50 percent of the producers in the areas involved in cultivation. It is a young Consortium (2011 was the first year of certification) made up of small and medium-sized enterprises, but determined, which intends to broaden its horizons by promoting and increasing the quantities on the market with the aim of reaching 30 percent of product marketed under the IGP brand. The cultivated area is about 1,500 hectares, for a total production that exceeds 75 thousand tons. The Consortium's objective is to make the product and its unique characteristics known, through targeted projects and promotional activities in the Italian and foreign large-scale distribution, to then reach the end user, a conscious consumer, attentive to quality products and sensitive to environmental issues. The project is co-financed by the Ministry of Agricultural and Food Policies.
The new asset is composed of:

Carmelo Calabrese (legal representative of the "Colle d'Oro" company),
Giulia Criscione (legal representative of the company "CO.A.CRI."),

The election of the Board was followed by the appointments that assigned the position of President to Massimo Pavan, while the appointment of the two vice-presidents went to Carmelo Calabrese of the Colle D'Oro company and the homonymous Carmelo Calabrese of the Fonteverde company, this one last outgoing president.
Giovanni Assenza and Giulia Criscione were appointed as directors.
Operators who intend to produce PGI for "Carota Novella di Ispica" PGI must send requests for adherence to the control system and adapt to the provisions of the Control Plan approved by the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies.
It is the responsibility of the control body to ascertain the compliance of the aforementioned subjects with the requirements governed by both the provisions of the Regulations and the provisions deriving from the Control Plan and according to the methods and frequency indicated in the compliance control table. In the case of a Protection Consortium recognized by the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies, this may submit to the Control Body the application for submission to compliance checks on the PGI, and the member producers will send their personal adhesions to the system to the Control Body. controls through the Consortium itself. Subsequently, it is the responsibility of the Control Body to carry out the compliance checks according to the frequency and methods set out in the Control Plan. The Consortium for the Protection of Carrot Novella di Ispica PGI has already forwarded a request for recognition to the Ministry and is awaiting communication on the matter.
The Control Body communicates to the ICQRF the list of operators registered in the control system of the “Carota Novella di Ispica” PGI. At this point, each farm must communicate to the Inspection Body the indicative date of the beginning of the harvest 10 days before this takes place. Each farm, within the term of 30 days from the end of the harvest, transmits to the Control Body: - the quantities of Carota Novella di Ispica products potentially destined for the PGI circuit - the quantities of Carota Novella di Ispica sold / delivered destined for the circuit of the PGI with the indication of the intermediary / packager. Communication is also necessary if, during the year, no carrots were sold for the PGI circuit. By December each farm confirms , by means of a simple written communication, the summary of the quantities produced and sold / delivered indicated above.
Annually, at the packers who place the Carrot Novella di Ispica PGI on the market, the inspection body carries out for each operator and every 500 tons. a sample of the product for analysis in order to ascertain compliance with the requirements of the specification. The conformity assessment of the finished product must be carried out by checking the product being packaged or packaged. The analyzes for compliance with the parameters morphological are carried out on site, during the audit of the controlled company. The analyzes must be carried out in a laboratory accredited in accordance with the UNI CEI EN ISO / IEC 17025 standard.On the lot subjected to the aforementioned examination, the Inspector takes the samples to be subsequently subjected to laboratory analyzes to verify compliance with the requirements set by the The results of the analyzes must be communicated by the control body to the operator within 7 days of receipt of the analysis report by the laboratory and the panel of tasters. The production batches from which the samples were taken are identified and retained in the warehouse, they can be liberalized for release for consumption only after the complete and positive outcome of the analytical checks carried out.The resulting non-compliant batches must be excluded from the Carota Novella di Ispica PGI circuit.
